U-turn
1. the turning of a vehicle in a U-shaped course so as to face in the opposite direction. E.g. to do/make a U-turn. The car made a U-turn and headed back at high speed.
2. a sudden and complete change of policy by a government or by someone in authority. This word usually shows that you do not approve of someone who does this. E.g. another U-turn by the government. Do a U-turn. The government was today accused of doing a U-turn after its decision not to raise petrol prices after all.
