pushback: opposition or resistance to a plan, an idea or a change. A negative or unfavourable reaction or response. Resistance to a change that has been introduced. E.g. The plan was abandoned because the pushback from the military was so strong. The Republican pushback was furious. We got some pushback on the price increases. We got some pushback on the new pricing. 'We've had almost no pushback. Parents have been very happy', said the headteacher. One ray of hope that I see is recent pushbacks from shareholders on excessive pay at the top.
