toss: to move or make somebody/something move from side to side or up and down. 

E.g.


Branches were tossing in the wind.
I couldn't sleep but kept tossing and turning in bed all night.
She tossed about restlessly all night with a high fever.
toss somebody/something Our boat was being tossed by the huge waves.  

The plane was tossed around by the turbulence.

 

Note: 

- Verbs of knowing and understanding are not normally used in past perfect, unless they are followed by 'for'.

E.g. 

As soon as John understood that he would have to work hard, he decided not to go to the job interview.

After they had known each other for a few months, they decided to go on a road trip together. 


- We use the present simple in exclamatory /ɪkˈsklæmətri/ sentences beginning with 'Here' or 'There'.

E.g.

Here comes the bus

There goes the bus  (you've missed it)
