- Sojourner : /soʊˈdʒɜrnər/ the small vehicle sent by NASA on the Pathfinder space trip to Mars in 1997.
It weighed 25 pounds/11 kilograms, had six wheels and was controlled
from earth. It moved on the surface of Mars, taking many photographs and
measurements and analysing the rocks, etc. It was named after Sojourner
Truth.
- NASA: /ˈnæsə/ National Aeronautics /ˌeərəˈnɔːtɪks/ and Space Administration (a US government organization that does research into space and organizes space travel)
- Mars Rover: a small vehicle made by NASA and sent to explore the surface of the planet Mars. The first Mars Rover, Sojourner was sent in 1996 and landed successfully in 1997. The second and third Mars Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity were sent in 2003 as part of the Mars Exploration Rover Missions and landed in 2004, sending back pictures of the planet.
