- High and dry: in a difficult situation, without help or money. E.g. I'm only working for one company. If they closed down, I'd be left high and dry.
- -wise: concerning. E.g. Things aren't too good businesswise.
- Confront somebody: to face somebody so that they cannot avoid seeing and hearing you, especially in an unfriendly or dangerous situation. E.g. This was the first time he had confronted an armed robber. Confronted by an angry crowd, the police retreated.

- Shortlist: to put somebody/something on a shortlist (a small number of candidates who have been chosen from all the people who applied) for a job, prize, etc. E.g. Candidates who are shortlisted for interview will be contacted by the end of the week.Her novel was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
- Blackcurrant: a small black berry that grows in bunches on a garden bush and can be eaten. Grosella negra. E.g. Blackcurrant jam. A blackcurrant bush.
- Redcurrant: a very small red berry that grows in bunches on a bush and can be eaten. E.g. Redcurrant jelly. A redcurrant bush.
- Garnish: /ˈɡɑːnɪʃ/ garnish something (with something): to decorate a dish of food with a small amount of another food. Adornar, decorar. E.g. Garnish the chicken with almonds. Soup garnished with croutons /ˈkruːt ɒnz/.
- Open tart: An open tart is a bit like a pizza but instead of a dough base, it has a pastry base. E.g. The pears and apples were put to good use in an utterly delicious open tart!
- Soak into/through something. Soak in: (of a liquid) to enter or pass through something. Calar algo. E.g. Blood had soaked through the bandage.
