Ex 3
Weigh/set: to consider something carefully before making a decision. Sopesar. E.g. I weighed the benefits of the plan against the risks involved. You must weigh up the pros and cons (= consider the advantages and disadvantages of something). The advantages must be set against the disadvantages. India sits at the forefront of the new economic paradigm. It is one of the fastest growing major economies in the world, with GDP growth running at 9% in 2007. Set against this is an estimated population living below the poverty line of over 27% in 2008. There are no toilet facilities or shelter, but weighed against this is the great beauty of the scenery and its unspoiled solitude.
